The collective efforts going into putting an end to COVID and the pandemic are going to pay off, and are already starting to. In this week’s “Viral Thoughts” staff reporter Haille Hughes discusses the decrease in Texas’s COVID cases.

Allen Fire Department, City of Frisco, Baylor Scott and White Health, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Tom Thumb Pharmacy are all providing exclusive COVID-19 vaccination opportunities to Frisco ISD employees.

“The District itself is not a vaccine provider,” FISD spokeswoman Meghan Cone said via email. “However, Frisco ISD has reached out to area vaccine providers to secure opportunities for our employees to be vaccinated, and we have communicated these opportunities to staff. As of this week, we are happy to report that these providers have prioritized more than enough vaccines for all staff members who want a vaccine to receive a vaccine in the near future.”

The eligibility for FISD employees came March 3, when the Texas Department of State Health Services notified all vaccine providers that they should immediately include school and child care workers in vaccine administration after receiving a letter from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services the night before.

The district will not require that employees get the vaccine, and it doesn’t plan to track the number of staff members that get vaccinated, according to Cone.

“We recognize the increased level of protection and added peace of mind the vaccine brings to our staff,” Cone said. “The District will reevaluate our disease mitigation practices as more employees are vaccinated and we continue to monitor disease transmission in our area.”
