Due to limited space, the current Frisco public library will be moving locations where it will be rebuilt as a bigger building where it will hold larger numbers of people and books.

Construction is set to begin on Frisco’s new public library, which is moving from its current location at city hall, to the former Beal Building, next door to the Frisco Discovery Center

According to Community Impact Newspaper, the developers said the construction on the 157,000 square-foot space, which is triple the size of the current library, would take approximately 22 months.

“We are at the point now where we are running through reports and wondering, ‘How are we going to keep the books on the shelves,’” Director of Frisco Public Library Shelley Holley said. “There are days when we don’t have enough seats to fit the amount of people who come in. There are not enough table spots and not enough books.”

Plans for the new library include a diversity of areas and what can be done in each which is appealing to junior Harini Thiyagaran.

“I would definitely go there because I find libraries a great place to work as it’s a nice, quiet environment,” Thiyagaran said. “I usually get more work done there. So, I think the new library will be put to great use and a lot of people would go there.”
