Godzilla v. Kong

Andrew Jáuregui, Staff Reporter

Following Godzilla in 2014, Kong: Skull Island in 2017, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters in 2019, fans were eager to see the twin titans of movie history, Godzilla and King Kong, fight against one another to see which mighty beast was strongest.

The two had fought against each other before in Godzilla vs Kong in a 1962 film, resulting in Kong being declared as the strongest, but in a new continuity in a new millennium, many hoped their rematch would make for some spectacular action.

The film features the standard human characters to help the audience explain what’s going on, but the film’s protagonist is King Kong. We follow him as he comes into conflict with Godzilla, who believes Kong is helping an evil company that threatens Godzilla’s power.

I won’t spoil who wins in the battle scenes, but the scenes themselves are the highlight of the movie, and at the end of it all, fans will be satisfied knowing that there is a clear winner, as many fans were worried that Hollywood would be afraid to divide the fanbase by having a clear winner.

In the end, Godzilla vs Kong is a popcorn movie. It has no deep meaning or artistic message, but it is exactly what it needs to be, an action-packed film filled to the brim with fan service.
