The track team competed at the area meet at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, with the Redhawks sending more than 10 athletes to the 5A Region II meet, and the boys’ team claiming 2nd place.

With multiple of the events ranked top in the nation, head coach Chip Gregory, takes no credit for the athletes competing at such a high level.

“You know, a lot of it is luck,” Greorgy said.  “Obviously it comes down to having the right type of kids that come to Liberty. Also it’s just their hard work and perseverance, more than anything. They want to continue to want to get better.”

With the Regional meet set for April 23-24 at University of Texas Arlington, the team is hoping to continue to improve on the little things.

“Preparation wise we’re going into it, kind of refocusing to get back to the basics,” Greorgy said. “And some of the fundamentals that got us to this point. And hopefully we can kind of build from there and have a better showing as a team and as individuals, for the regional meet to get us to state.”
