With all Frisco ISD high school students returning back to school in-person, staff and students on campus are attempting to return to a state of normalcy.

“So this year, school will be like it was before COVID,” principal Ashley Rainwater said. “Masks are optional. If students want to wear masks, they’re certainly welcome to do so. We will try to social distance as best we can, but again, we’re at 100% capacity with our students again so finding spaces to social distance may be a little more difficult this year.”

Beginning Thursday, advisory will be reintroduced to all students.

“The only thing that’s new about advisory is that we don’t want kids moving around the academic wings,” Rainwater said. “So, when you get to advisory, they want you to stay there.”

Although almost everything is reverting back to pre-COVID practices, one system that was instituted last year will be back.

“We are keeping the E-Hall pass,” Rainwater said. “So, when you need to leave the classroom that will be used again this year.”

Ultimately, the goal is to transition to the usual routine that staff and students on campus exercised before the pandemic.

“When we started planning for this year, the hope was that it would be like 2019,” Rainwater said. “As always, the district is working with city health officials to watch what’s going on. So things may change as positive rates increase or decrease throughout the year, but the hope is to get back to normal as much as possible. We’re looking forward to getting back to classes like we’re used to.”
