Cross country attended their second meet of the season and secured top finishes. Junior Sydni Wilkins finished first in the girls’ open varsity division, and junior Jack Voehringer finished in the top half of the boys’ elite varsity.

Cross country did get the results it had hoped for at Saturday’s Lovejoy Fall Festival, with the boys’ elite varsity finishing 20th out of 23 teams and the girls’ elite varsity not receiving a team result with just two girls competing.

To several runners, the reason for Saturday’s showing was simple.

“It was super hilly,” senior Jada Williams said. “Probably one of the hardest courses I have run”.

Senior Devansh Saxena, who led the team to a strong finish at the Aug. 28 meet, was overcome by Saturday’s challenges and dropped out mid-race.

“I don’t think we were prepared for how difficult the course would be,” Saxena said. “To make up for that we’re going to practice more hills in the future.”
