Redhawk cross country heads to their first 5k of the season on Saturday at Bob Jones Park. Being on of the flattest courses, many athletes feel prepared for the race.

The Redhawk cross country teams placed five runners in the top 20 at Saturday’s Frisco ISD Invitational on Saturday, with the boys’ varsity team coming in 3rd place, the team’s highest finish this year.

With seniors Jada Williams and Devansh Saxena, juniors Andrew Jauregui and Fernando Levya-Montiel, and freshman Sofia Golladay leading the way, the team was back on familiar ground at Warren Park.

“We’ve been running that course for a while,” sophomore Sheyn Walker said. “Our goal was to go out and compete and we did.”

The site of this year’s District 9-5 meet on Oct. 14, Saturday’s meet provided the team with practice.

“Warren’s course is short and pretty fast,” junior Chance Moore said. “There’s a large hill that makes it pretty difficult.”

Hills have been constant for the team this year. With the turbulence of inconsistent results that has plagued the team thus far, the athletes maintain a mindset of determination.

“Waking up early every morning is hard,” Moore said. “But I’m willing to keep working day in and day out.”
