The Valorant teams of the Esports club are gearing up to participate in the fall season in the High School Esports League, which begins Monday.

“We’ve been practicing for around 2 weeks, since when the team was formed. We started practicing as early as possible so we can have the most amount of preparation before the season starts,” team captain and sophomore Chris Leung said. “I hope that we are able to make the championship in Arlington this year, but if we don’t, there’s always next semester and next year.”

Coach of the varsity squad, senior Jerry Bui in his first year coaching the team, is already anticipating a lot out of the squad once the regular season begins.

“What I do is help the team with their communication skills,” Bui said. “I can’t help them with the mechanics of the game because they are all 10 times better than me, but I can help pinpoint any misplays and miscommunications that they did after rounds.”

Members of the JV squad also share high hopes of making the playoffs this season and hitting the top 32 in the nation.

“We are looking forward to trying to make the playoffs,” sophomore Pujan Shah said. “We believe that it is possible for us to make it and it would be amazing to be one of the top 32 high school Valorant teams.”
