The Redhawks won their first playoff game in a decade on Friday after traveling to, and beating  the Forney Jackrabbits 45-21 in the Bi-District round of UIL 5A-II football playoffs.

“I feel like winning this game was our main goal,” quarterback, junior Keldric Luster said. “Going into the week we were pretty excited about the game. We were pretty mentally focused.”

Jumping out to a 45-7 lead, the Redhawks won their 5th straight. Among those wins was a 27-24 victory over the state’s #2 ranked Lovejoy Leopards in the season finale.

“[On Friday] we proved that we are ready for anything,” defensive tackle, senior Jack Wilson said. “We can overcome any challenge people put in front of us and win ball games.”

This will be a key factor for the team heading into their next game on Friday at 7:00 p.m. against 10-time state champion Aledo High School at Apogee Stadium in Denton.

“There is always adversity in a football game and it just comes down to who can handle adversity better,” head coach Matt Swinnea said. “It’s a new season and everybody’s 0-0. We just need to show up and keep playing like we’re playing.”
