Girls basketball brought home a 54-22 win in a District 9-5A game against the Centennial Titans on Friday. While it seemed like a game the Redhawks had in the bag, the team still fought throughout the entirety of the game to follow through with their drive and secure their final score.

The Redhawks took flight Friday as they faced off against the Centennial Titans in a District 9-5A girls basketball game as the game was nearly over shortly after it began. The Redhawks came out fast, jumping out to a 15-2 lead with a minute left in the 1st quarter.

“You want to make sure you get something out of it,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “We wanted to work on new things in our offense that didn’t involve a pick and roll. Journee does really well playing out of that but since we lost her, we have to work on other things that we will use during the season.”

After a fast start, the Redhawks didn’t let up. A 17-point lead with 1:40 left in the second quarter was followed by a 6-0 run featuring threes from sophomore Keyera Roseby and senior Jazzy Owens-Barnett which gave the Redhakws a 23 point lead, and a 30-7 halftime lead..

“We executed really well in the first half,” junior Jezelle Jolie-Moreno said. “To come out and win like that felt great but we are still focused on our end goal.”

Even though they had a big lead, the team still wanted to stay focused on the bigger picture.

“We have to prepare ourselves for the tougher teams that we will see as the season goes on,” Reedy said. “We tried to work on things during that game that we need to improve on like figuring out new post entries.”

The Redhawks picked up where they left off at half, quickly going on another run, before pulling away for a 54-22 win that featured shooting 51% from the field, 43% from three, and 80% from the free throw line.

“It’s not about the stats as much as it is did we get the shots the right way,” Reedy said “You can throw up bad shots and they could just happen to fall but when you can execute and get the right shots then the numbers start to matter and I feel like we did that.”
