Following a tough win against McKinney North, the Redhawks are bouncing into their next round of playoffs. Staying so close throughout the first half gave the team the drive they need heading into Friday.

The girls’ basketball team hit the road on Friday to take on the Reedy Lions in the final game in the first round of District 9-5A play, with the Redhawks earning a 39-25 win.

“I thought we played very well. For all the talk you get about Memorial, us and Lone Star, Reedy has figured some things out and is on the cusp of becoming a really good team,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “They play similar to us. They like to execute whether it’s offensively and defensively. They don’t mind being in a possession for a long time.”

For coach Reedy, Friday’s win was much mental as physical.

“This was one of those that would have suggested that there wasn’t energy in the game,” he said. “There was energy in the game; it just had to be geared more towards cerebral energy and being able to problem solve.”

Playing on the road, the Redhawks were prepared for the hostile environment.

“We knew that this game would be different,” junior Za’naiha Hensley said. “We just stayed focused and didn’t get out of control.”
