Baseball season is kicking into gear as the team began district play over spring break. Coming off of last year’s regional quarterfinal exit against Wakeland, the team is eager to reach those heights once again.

“As a team, our goal is not only to go further than we did last year,” senior Davis Delich said. “But to also make it all the way to the state tournament.”

The pre-season gave the the team mixed results, however head coach Scott McGarrh believes it gave many players a chance to garner experience before the district schedule.

“It was good,” McGarrh said.  “We had a lot of young kids step up and we were able to get our games in unlike last year so we got to look at a lot of different kids in different spots. Some kids did good things.”

The boys have played three district games, notching two wins over Independence and Lone Star, while suffering a major defeat against district top dog Wakeland.

Against Lone Star Senior Brody Curry pitched a strong game, recording a win and only allowing one run.

“I felt great,” Curry said. “I had the mindset of going out there and focusing on each pitch and ayer the 1st inning I got locked in and the rest was history.”

The two results has Seton Hall commit Noah Thompson excited for the rest of the season.

“We are playing really well offensively and defensively,” Thompson said. “I can’t wait to see how the rest of our season goes for us.”

McGarrh shares his players optimism for the outlook on the season.
“I’m optimistic,” McGarrh said. “Kids worked real hard in the offseason. They got in the weight room, they lifted, and ran probably harder than any other group we have ever had. It was tons of running tons of kids holding each other accountable. The season has started well so high expectations for this coming season.”
