Advancing out of regionals, the boys and girls track teams are planning their travel to state. With the boys securing 1st place last year, they have big shoes to fill.

The race for state is underway with the boys’ track and field team winning the District 9-5A championship at Kuykendall Stadium.

“It feels good,” senior Cameron Wooley said. “Being my last year and to win it,  just having a trophy to compliment our work we put in.”

For the athletes moving on to Thursday’s area meet, the grind continues.

“I’m going to area for the 400, long jump, and 4×100,” Wooley said. “We’re all still putting in the work in practice, taking ice baths, just so we can be at 100%.”

Although the girls’ team didn’t win the district meet, they still had runners who qualified for are; including all relay teams, as well as junior Ivana Odonkor in the 400 meter dash, and junior Bella Copeland in triple jump.

For senior Jada Williams, advancing to the area meet in the 4×100, which dropped nearly a second off their time, and the 4×200, this was a great way to finish out the district season.

“It feels really amazing especially because we were constantly changing the order and we finally got to where we wanted,” Williams said. “And we got to impress people who weren’t expecting us to run what we just ran.”
