On Tuesday, Mary Jane McCurdy was awarded the MaxPreps Texas Volleyball Player of the Week presented by the American Volleyball Coaches Association for the week of Sept. 26 through Oct. 2. “She was injured all last year and it was really hard for us, so it’s really great to see her getting the recognition she deserves,” head volleyball coach Eighmy Dobbins said.

Starting their season with tournament play, the Redhawks volleyball team took part in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Tournament going 7-1 and placing second.

“Varsity played really well in the tournament this weekend,” head coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “We competed well and played together as a team the whole weekend.”

Dobbins believes with the success in this tournament, the team will be prepared for future games this season.

“Our success in the tournament has made the girls more confident,” Dobbins said. “Now that we have some wins under our belt, they are ready for more this week.”

For junior Mary Jane McCurdy, the wins over the weekend give the team motivation.

“We improved a lot over the weekend, and I think that we worked really well as a team and got closer,” McCurdy said. “The tournament proved to us how good of a team we are, and it will keep us more motivated knowing we have the potential.”
