Lockers no longer offered
August 25, 2022
What began as a COVID-19 protocol has turned into something permanent as students no longer have access to lockers. Due to a dwindling number of students opting to not use lockers through the course of the year, the decision to eliminate the use of lockers seemed inevitable.
“The decision to no longer use lockers shouldn’t come as a surprise,” assistant principal Jason Harris said. “We’ve noticed that during freshman year, students use their lockers a good bit, but after that sophomore, juniors, and seniors hardly ever look at their lockers. Now there are not enough lockers for all students, or even freshmen.”
Wingspan has not received word of any plans for the lockers, but freshman Zaara Ahmed says repurposing them would his would make use of the lost space.
”Using lockers as a storage area for teachers to keep extra books, supplies, and materials, may be a good use of them,” Ahmed said.
In the eyes of sophomore Saanvi Verma, discontinuing the use of lockers is far more efficient.
”Honestly, I’ve never really used lockers much and it’s more helpful to carry things because I have to walk long distances across the school so it’s easier to carry all my stuff with me,” Verma said. “I’m glad they decided to stop using lockers.”
