According to the National Institute of Justice, 13% of people in law enforcement are women.

To help combat the problem, the Frisco Police Department is holding a “Women in law enforcement” event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Frisco Police Department building.

Women’s representation has been an ongoing goal in the Frisco Police Department, as the event has existed for several years.

“We do have a wide variety of women that do work in our police department,” police officer Wendy White said. “We always are looking for others to join. And so they just bring a better overall overwhelming more of a different aspect to the police department. We can bring a whole bunch of things to the table that maybe a man cannot. And so we encourage women to apply all the time.”

The department hopes to educate the public and gain prospective applicants in a variety of sectors through their advocacy attempts.

“So people don’t know of all the opportunities that we have within the department,” White said. “They can learn each job as they go to the booth, to booth, and so they’ll get more of a one-on-one, and that would give them an ability to ask any questions about their position. Sometimes I know it’s better to do it person to person and to see what we all have to offer at the police department than just by an email or, you know, like a flier or some sort.
