Art and soccer join together for Dallas is Diversity

The Dallas area is known to be a fast growing melting pot of culture, religion, and lifestyles. Dallas is Diversity is a chance for middle school and high school students to have their artwork featured in the annually held Dallas Cup calendar and potentially win scholarship money.

“The Dallas cup is a youth soccer tournament held in Dallas every year,” Art 1 teacher Jeb Matulich said. “They have partnered with local districts to have an art contest to create a calendar each year. There’s different opportunities for the students to win, so if they win they can get one of the month’s of the calendar display their artwork.”

The Dallas Cup organization selects twelve winners for the calendar and out of those five are selected to receive five hundred dollars in scholarship money.

“I think it’s a good opportunity,” sophomore Lakenya Alexander said. “For other teams to compete against each other in the tournament, and I also think it’s good to show off your artwork.”

Some art students are realizing alternative subjects can be intriguing and are enjoying this creative approach to athletics.

“I think it’s interesting,” junior Abonti Ferdous said. “And the fact that you can incorporate sports and different cultures it’s fascinating.”
