Physics and astronomy teacher Kenric Davies was named the school’s 2022-23 Teacher of the Year.

“The district runs the entire teacher of the year program and they send a link to every school to go ahead and ask for nominees,” principal Stacey Whaling said. “So the teachers basically nominate people for teacher of the year.”

For Davies, the award was unexpected.

“I guess that I didn’t know why I’m being given this, because there are so many other deserving teachers here that go above and beyond just like I do,” Davies said. “So I was shocked because I wasn’t really expecting it.”

Whaling believes Davies’s knowledge and passion for his subjects and creative teaching style are part of what sets him apart.

“Mr. Davies, among, the other great teachers nominated, is a true content master, really knows his stuff, but also is constantly trying to find interesting, engaging, innovative ways,” Whaling said. “So he is definitely a master of his craft, but also just a good human being.”

For senior Jazze Stewart, his balance of helping out and having fun is beneficial.

“He makes class fun and organized,” senior Jazze Stewart said. “So you always know what’s going on and at the end of every class he asks how we are feeling about the topic and if we need more help which I think is very helpful.”

Davies is proud to see that the work he’s put into his teaching has been recognized at a high honor.

“It always feels good to be recognized for doing things that you love to do in the classroom,” Davies said. “So I mean, taking things to the next level and attempting big projects and all that, it’s always good to be recognized for the work you put in.”
