The 47th overall game released under the Call of Duty name and company Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare II has so far offered an invigorating sequel. With a continuation of following Task Force 141’s development, a brand new movement system, and skin progression, this year’s version has a lot to offer.

A major favorite of mine from playing is definitely the campaign. This year’s graphics feel so realistic and the rework they’ve done for the fan favorite character Simon “Ghost” Riley has really played well for the game. Ghost is more noticeable in this game as they’ve developed his story, and that he actually speaks this time, which alone has added so much depth to him. You really understand why he’s such an important asset to Captain John Price, Task Force 141’s leader, and why he has this serious, “get the job done” type character. The overall campaign has been action packed, traveling across the world, hunting down major enemies to get to the main protagonist, Hassan.

For multiplayer, one of the biggest positives is gun skin mastery and progression. They have made it miles easier compared to Modern Warfare. In the past, I had to do hundreds of camo challenges per gun, but now it’s around a fraction of that and little more. However this system is a give-and-take, as the gun leveling takes ages and with 51 guns in total, it will take quite the commitment of time.

As far as playing goes, I’ve really grown to hate this new movement system. Compared to Modern Warfare, it feels so much less fluid and sometimes I just feel extremely stiff trying to play keyboard and mouse. I asked my brother how he felt about it, who plays on a controller, and he’s actually enjoyed it, since it gives a level playing field against players’ like me.

This year’s version of Call of Duty has seemed to play well so far off release and I’m excited to see the longevity of it. I think that the rework of Warzone, Call of Duty’s battle royale will also play into keeping this series alive and popular until their next release.
