McCurdy nominated DFW Player of the Year
Redhawks volleyball player, junior Mary Jane McCurdy, is nominated for the DFW Volleyball Player of the Year presented by Sun & Ski Sports. Voting is open to the public and closes Dec. 6.
“I was super excited to be nominated and to be recognized for my hard work during school season,” McCurdy said. “I was shocked to be nominated alongside so many other good players.”
McCurdy is nominated alongside only seven other players in Frisco ISD.
“Being nominated for DFW Player of The Year is a big honor,” head volleyball coach Eighmy Dobbins said. “It shows what an elite player she is in our district and in the area in general.”
Leading District 10-5A with 608 kills and also earning 498 digs, Dobbins believes McCurdy’s versatility is what makes her a strong player.
“MJ is a recipient because of her ability to be successful at every aspect of the game,” Dobbins said. “She is really strong offensively and defensively and a very consistent player. We are really lucky she is a part of our program and I hope she wins this award to get the recognition she deserves.”
McCurdy was unable to play for the majority of the 2021-2022 season due to an injury to her ankle, so this award shows her resilience.
“This nomination means a lot to me coming off of a season where I did not get to play because of my broken ankle,” McCurdy said. “It really shows how hard I worked to be back and how badly I did want to play this year. This award also just brings me good energy and confidence heading into the club season.”
Voting is open until 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 6, and can be found at https://www.vype.com/Texas/DFW/2022-volleyball-poty-poll.
