The window for students to drop Advanced and AP classes is now open. Students must fill in the form to drop a class prior to Dec. 15.

As the first semester reaches a close, students in Advanced Placement and advanced courses have the opportunity to drop down from their classes beginning Thursday via a form on the Counselor’s Corner Website. Changes to schedules will be made effective upon the return from winter break.

“The drop window is available to students because sometimes in life we need to re-evaluate our situation,” A-E counselor Kelli Chandler said via email. “Our goals, our performance, and our time management. In doing so, we may find the need to make adjustments that support our overall best interest.”

Students dropping an AP or advanced course may experience a shift in lunch periods, teachers, and current class schedule. For some, this may also introduce the option of early release or late arrival according to the most recent Counselor Connection Newsletter: “If the dropped course has no regular level to move to, then the student will move to early release, late arrival, PE, or other class as determined by [the student’s] counselor, credit situation, graduation requirements, and the limits of the master schedule.”

The deadline to submit a drop form is Dec. 15 giving students time to talk with parents, teachers, and their counselors to determine if a schedule change is a right choice for them.

It is a family’s decision,” Chandler said. “With that being said, students should communicate with their teacher about the change to seek their input and recommendations as well as their parent to seek guidance as well.”
