Switching gears from the Winter Extravaganza, choir is hosting a winter concert Thursday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

“I have never had a winter concert,” senior Isabelle Raade said. “We’ve had the winter extravaganza but that’s for everyone, not just us.”

For sophomore Ashvita Suresh Kumar, winter performances are always an exciting part of the year.

“The most exciting part about the winter concert is performing a piece that you’ve spent so long preparing and putting in hard work for,” Suresh Kumar said. “It’s always rewarding because it’s a lot of work but so much fun especially because it’s before break.”

For choir director Toni Ugolini, the students are what makes these concerts worth it.

“I really enjoy getting to see them perform songs they’ve worked really hard on for the community, especially some of the tried and true holiday favorites,” Ugolini said.

Though the concert is an annual event, the set list has undergone change from the previous years, with special performances included as well.

“The vast majority of out songs are new,” Ugolini said. “I try to mix it up so you don’t make it to your senior year and you’ve sung all of the same stuff. So of the fifteen songs for out concert, there are only three that they have sung before. ”

This will be a bittersweet moment for the graduating class according to Ugolini.

“The seniors have had a rough time not really getting to do a winter concert during the Covid year,” she said. “I’m glad they’re able to showcase what they are able to do.”

“It’s a bittersweet feeling because I’ve been in choir since 6th grade and it’s my last ever winter concert,” Raade said. “I performed “Carol of the Bells” and “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” when I was in 6th grade and we’re performing them this year. It’s a full circle moment.”
