Boys’ basketball was kept busy over break with the 82nd Annual Dallas ISD Holiday Invitational to kick off their schedule, playing a total of 4 games and ending the tournament with a 3-1 record.
“This was a very competitive tournament and the boys were tested, but they played great and we were able to keep ourselves in good shape and healthy,” head coach Stephen Friar said. “We were able to hone in on our identity, our team has a lot of veterans and we’re able to be versatile in our game play.”
The Redhawks were seeking improvements in this mid-season tournament, which they were able to find and utilize.
“These teams were all really good, so we experimented a lot with different styles to see what would work best for harder opponents,” senior Matthew Bishop said. “We learned a lot about how we work as a team and it’ll definitely help us for the rest of the year.”
After the invitational, the team took a small break before they geared up for 2 district games, facing the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers and Heritage Coyotes. The Redhawks were able to win both games, 65-47 against the Trail Blazers and 81-74 against the Coyotes, moving their district record to 3-0.
“The boys competed well against both teams, being able to pick up where they left off from the tournament was great to see and they were able to execute,” Friar said. “We were able to play at a pace that suited us best and limit the turnovers throughout the game with great team play.”
The team was able to find success over break through excellent teamwork and being able to play their game
“We were able to lock in for each game, we moved the ball around well and got the good and open looks for easy points,” Bishop said. “Moving from these wins, we’re looking to mix up our game a little so we can keep our opponents guessing and use the team’s adaptability to our advantage.
