The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees convened over a variety of topics and recognized district events during their monthly meeting on Tuesday.

This included recognition for 363 College Board recognized students in FISD and along with the Board being recognized for Board Recognition Month.

“I think it’s really cool that students got recognized at the board meeting for their work,” senior Jiya Surywanshi said. “It helps encourages students to continue to with their academic accomplishments.”

The Board frequently discussed how to comply with state censorship in school libraries, so the book reconsideration committee was passed after 170 parents applied to serve and give input on books.

One of the most anticipated decisions concerned the 2023 – 2024 school calendar, which was tabled from the last meeting. The trustees delayed the decision to survey community and employee input, and work with neighboring districts like McKinney, Allen, and Plano for the first time. The approved calendar now aligns with some surrounding districts.

“A pro to the new approved calendar is that it is the same as neighboring districts especially for teachers who have kids in other districts,” teacher Jamie Berendt said. “I also think getting off before Memorial Day is a big plus.”
