First it was the 9-5A district tournament championship. Now the girls’ golf team hopes to add the 5A Region II Championship as they tee off today and Thursday at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club.

“Winning our third district title was exciting and we all played really well,” senior Makenna Davidson said. “We all played really well, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come at regionals.”

The district win was a complete team effort as they won by more than 80 strokes.

“It was awesome to win districts again this year,” junior Loren Matrone said. “It sets us up for a great run at a state title. The girls and I are so pumped to show Region 2 what we’ve got.”

Junior Darby Deans led the way for the team, winning the individual title.

“I’m so proud to represent Liberty by winning first in district and being three time district champions,” Deans said. “I can’t wait to see what this team will do for the rest of the season.”

Head coach Shannon Gildwell says the team is ready for what’s next.

“The girls have been working extremely hard,” Gildwell said. “We are looking forward to another long post-season with another berth at the state championship.”
