As DECA students competed at the annual DECA state competition on March 9-11, the primary goal for many was advancing to the International Career Development Conference

On campus, that goal was accomplished by 15 students, ready to compete at the highest level of DECA competition this April in Orlando.

“So this year, ICDC is going to be in Orlando and people from all over the world come to compete on this international stage competing in their own individual event, whether that be written or individual,” sophomore Sia Parpelli said. “Although it was difficult I had to really learn how to balance DECA with my school work, I can now apply that to ICDC. I want to ensure that I absorb and thoroughly understand the material I need to know for competition.”

As ICDC qualifying students lock in to prepare for the competition, Parpelli believes it’s crucial to maintain a focused mindset.

“I’m really excited to compete at ICDC,” Parpelli said. “All these people around you are rooting and vying for the same spot, the same recognition, and the same award, and I know that the competition is going to be tough. However, I’m going to tackle it head-on and study and do as much as I can to hopefully take home a DECA glass.”

With thousands of students packed in for an intense competition, sophomore Abhineeth Pasam believes it’s crucial to also enjoy the non-competitive aspects of ICDC.

“I’m really looking forward to going to ICDC to not just compete but to meet and network with more people across the country,” Pasam said. “I’m excited to be going to Universal and Disney with friends since ICDC is in Orlando this year. I’m hoping to meet new people and build great relationships at the conference.”
