Years of planning and construction are coming to fruition with Tuesday’s opening of the Omni PGA Frisco Resort, one of the nation’s largest resort developments. Part of the PGA’s relocation from Florida to Texas, the resort features “500 guest rooms, 49 suites, 10 four-bedroom luxury ranch homes, eight retail spaces, four pools, a Topgolf lounge, and 13 restaurant and bar options.

Gov. Greg Abbott is scheduled to be on hand, along with mayor Jeff Cheney. For Cheney, the opening of the Omni PGA Frisco Resort is another example of the city’s ability to produce public-private partnerships.

“When you go to an entity like the PGA of America, then they say, okay, we know Frisco’s a can-do city, someone who you can get something like this done, so you have immediate credibility,” Cheney said. “And then there’s just an energy and a buzz here. We’re named the number one place to live, great schools, you know, just kind of a thriving area. It’s a place where people want to live, it’s a place where people want to invest their money, and certainly do business with.”

With two 18-hole championship golf courses, the resort is already off to a successful start according to Omni PGA Frisco Resort vice president and managing director Jeff Smith.

“The level of interest and the level of advanced books, as a result, has been tremendous,” Smith said to the Dallas Morning News. “We’re far exceeding our expectations.”
