Swadeshi Indian Grocery and Restaurant is a naan-stop flavor fiesta

Swadeshi Indian Grocery and Restaurant provides authentic Indian food to Frisco. Staff Reporter Sindhuja Pannuri describes her experience with the restaurant.

Swadeshi Indian Grocery and Restaurant is a place like no other. With an Indian grocery store on one side, where people can buy exquisite mangoes and fan favorite garam masala, the opposite end of the store acts as a restaurant, serving up hot meals to customers that come from all over Frisco.

As soon you walk in, the aromas hit your nose as the bustle of the store welcomes you with open arms. The open seating set up, with a tent that leads to outside for extra space feels very homely, like everyone is familiar with each other.

The menu is along the wall, displayed in big letters above the register. It can also be found online. There is a large variety of both North and South Indian foods, uniting the cuisines under Swadeshi’s roof.

The food took about 10-15 minutes to arrive, on a pretty busy day. However, time may vary based on how busy the restaurant is, and how many servers are working.

The first item to arrive was an appetizer – namely, Chicken 65. This crispy chicken, coated in a chili batter and deep fried to perfection, was a great way to start the meal. It may be a bit on the spicy side for those who do not eat spice regularly, and had a satisfying crunch with each bite taken. The portion size was more than hefty, and had enough to share with a friend or family member.

To any vegetarians, fret not! There are plenty of vegetarian options available, as many Indians do not eat meat. The main dish ordered was the Paneer Butter Masala, a creamy curry. The paneer, which is Indian cottage cheese, was soft and melted in the mouth. Served with naan (flatbread), this was a very satisfying overall curry with a strong palette.

Finally, rice is a must order at any Indian restaurant. The Paneer Dum Biryani was an absolute delight to eat. Filled with curried paneer, onions, peppers, and loads of masala, this was a flavor explosion in the mouth. Just thinking about it makes mouths water. It is on the spicier side, so many order raitha, which is yogurt filled with carrot and cucumber, in order to balance the hotness of the rice. An excellent way to finish the meal.

Swadeshi Indian Grocery and Restaurant has friendly service and authentic food that welcomes the community of Frisco with open arms, and is a wonderful choice for a hot meal with your favorite people.
