Cross country competed in their first meet of the season, the Rock Hill Twilight Invitational on Friday.
“Overall the athletes exceeded performance expectations,” coach Khera Vay said. “The returning athletes ran their personal best for that course, some dropping over 3 minutes of time from last year and the new athletes ran great times for this early in the season.”
On the girls’ side, three Redhawks finished in the top 15 out of 77 in the girls’ varsity elite division with senior Sydni Wilkins coming in first.
“I feel very proud of my performance,” Wilkins said. “I beat my time on this course last year by 28 seconds which is awesome improvement.”
Senior Jack Voehringer had a successful race finishing ninth out of 97 in the boys’ varsity elite division, but believes there is still work to be done.
“I need to work on having a stronger finish at the end of the race,” Voehringer said. “I got passed at the line by a few guys, so I’ll be working to prevent that from happening again going forward.”
