As the Redhawks discovered in Friday’s season opening football game, a 31-10 loss at Corsicana on Friday, the difference between winning and losing can often come down to the little things.
“We did some good things, but to use a cliche, we “shot ourselves in the foot” too many times,” head football coach Matt Swinnea said. “We had three turnovers and numerous assignment busts. However, I thought we competed well and showed some real promise.”
Finding the endzone first for the Redhawks was junior Lincoln Daniel in what was a personal highlight, but a frustrating team result.
“I felt great, great way for my season to start off even if we did lose,” Daniel said. “At the moment, I was thinking there’s still a chance for a comeback. I know we could have won that game, so the results were definitely aggravating.”
Swinnea believes the loss can be partly explained by players trying to do too much.
“We really need to trust that doing our job is enough,” Swinnea said. “It’s really not about making plays, it’s about making your play. It’s about execution. The more we learn what to do and have faith that others will do the same, we have a chance to play really well.”
