The English STAAR tests and over, but those were just the start. The next round of testing begins on Tuesday. With more testing coming up, here’s a list of do’s and dont’s of the STAAR test.

  1. Make sure that when you pick your pencil to write with (especially mechanical pencils), you DON’T get the squeaky kind. Everybody hates the sound of a pencil screeching across your paper. Especially since you will be sitting next to them for five hours get one that writes smoothly.
  2. This one might be difficult to do, but whenever eating lunch try NOT to make it awkward. A gym full of students silently sitting down, staring at the ground, eating, makes everything else a little uncomfortable. Despite you not being able to speak you can still look around and not make the situation so awkward.
  3. Make sure that when you go into the testing room, that you DO bring a snack that doesn’t make noise. The person sitting next to you doesn’t want to hear you crunching away.
  4. When erasing a mistake on your test DO NOT do it roughly. Remember that you are doing it with a person sitting right next to you at the same table. Going crazy with an eraser shakes the entire table and the other people sitting at the table need to stop their test and wait for you to finish erasing so that they can begin again.

After reading these four tip on the do’s and don’ts of the STAAR, try to be a little more considerate with the person sitting next to you. Who knows, maybe some of them might return the favor.
