Rain washed away Friday’s baseball game, but it wasn’t enough to put a damper on the team’s postseason bid as they beat Frisco 7-2 on Saturday to earn the number two seed from District 9-5A.

Senior Noah Thompson earned the win and pitched a complete game, striking out five players while only allowing one earned run. Thompson also starred at the plate, driving in three runs, while junior Garrett Crews hit a two-run home run to add to the run support.

“This team is just different,” head coach Scott McGarrh said. “They work hard and they get along great. We’ve had to deal with injuries, we’ve lost a few kids, and you always hear the mentality ‘Next Guy Up’ and we’ve lived in this year. Moving kids around, just having to plug kids in, and they’ve just done well. They went out and played the best game of the year.”

The team opens the playoffs with a three game series against defending state champion Prosper, the number three seed from District 10-5A.

“I am extremely excited [to play Prosper]”, McGarrh said. “They’re the defending state champs and they’re the state champs until someone beats them. I think our kids are gonna give it everything they got out there and prove to them that they are as good as they are. It’s going to be a good series with two evenly matched teams.”
