Stem Spotlight: AP Computer Science Principles practice create task

Currently, AP Computer Science Principle students are working on a create task that requires students to make an app, having until the end of the semester to finish it.

With apps being one of the biggest segments in the technology industry with approximately 1.5 million workers, AP Computer Science Principles challenges students to create on their own.

“So we are currently working on our practice create task which is a run-through for the actual AP exam,” AP Computer Science Principles teacher said. “They are learning how to embrace challenges because they are creating a project from ground zero, it helps them prepare for the real world by working with their partners and dealing with critical thinking skills. They’re getting exposed to a lot of different projects, also getting comfortable with the rubric so when you are grading other projects you learn more.”

Students have their own choice of making whatever program they want to.

“I like that we get to do whatever we want, it’s a creative project,” senior Shaurya Das said. “I did a color-picking project idea, it’s just a creative idea that we can do. I’m learning how to go through loops and initializing variables and how to manage lists.”
