  • Trading instruments for baking ingredients, orchestra is hosting their second bake off on Monday.

  • Orchestra students made a variety of baked goods which the judges were given to try.

  • Different from last year’s Bake Off, judges are able to rate goods digitally to ensure the social can finish in a 30 minute advisory period.

  • The judges of the Bake Off consisted of students from each orchestra and a variety of teachers. Each judge had their own spot at their judging table, marked by a card with their name on it.

  • The Bake Off had a large number of spectators as orchestra students watched the event to support their friends.

Orchestra students are putting down their instruments and picking up kitchen utensils and showing off their baking skills during the Orchestra Bake Off held during advisory Monday.

Orchestra officers initially came up with this idea last year and due to the positive outcome of Bake Off last year, the officers decided to continue it this year. However, this year’s Bake Off came with changes.

“We were more organized this year,” Assistant Orchestra Director Madison Waggerman said. “We also did judging electronically to cut down on the amount of time the social takes and plated things in advance which was really helpful.”

For freshman Sarah Tang, this was an opportunity for her to show off her baking skills.

“I decided to participate because I like baking things,” Tang said. “I have always baked but I started baking cookies a lot more often during COVID and have become better at baking.”

Not only was this a chance for students to bake goods, but this was an opportunity for students to hang out with other orchestra members.

“It’s really cool to see what other people like to bake and see the creativity in all the different goods people made,” junior Avishi Singh said. “This was also a chance for me to hang out with my friends from orchestra.
