Wingspan’s featured athlete for 2/8 is varsity soccer player, junior Lucas Godoy.

Wingspan: When and why did you start playing soccer?

Godoy: “I started playing when I was about three or four, and honestly my parents forced me into it, but I fell in love immediately when I started playing.”

Wingspan: What is your favorite part about playing soccer?

Godoy: “My favorite thing about playing are the little moments when I can feel that the work that either I or our team put in pays off. It’s very satisfying.”

Wingspan: What is the difference between club and high school soccer?

Godoy: “Club definitely has more pressure and is more competitive, but high school gives a sense of community that you can’t get elsewhere.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Godoy: “My biggest inspiration are my teammates that I’ve played with in the past and right now. They’ve taught me a lot and given me a lot of fond memories.”

Wingspan: What is your goal for this season?

Godoy: “Of course making it to playoffs would be amazing, but I want to play in a way that makes us proud of how we did.”

Wingspan: What has soccer taught you?

Godoy: “It’s led me to make some of the best memories I’ve had and make some of my closest friends along with teaching me how to grow into myself as a person.”

Wingspan: Who is your biggest supporter?

Godoy: “My biggest supporter is my dad. He’s always giving me his input and advice which has helped me immensely over the years.”

Wingspan: What does your future with soccer look like?

Godoy: “I’m not too sure yet. Playing at college is definitely a possibility, but I haven’t made any decisions yet.”
