If you have seen students wearing trash bags and bunny ears, know that this is not the new strange trend. The International Thespian Society is having their traditional induction week for theatre students wanting to join, and daily challenges, often comical costumes included, are part of the requirements for entry. On Monday theatre students had to wear trash bags with a duct taped T which stands for Thespis, the first actor in history. Anytime someone inquired upon their garments they recited a monologue.

“It’s a little bit embarrassing at first,” theatre 2 student Grace Raber said. “but you learn to roll with it and have fun.”

“Overall it’s a really good experience,” vice president of ITS Kyleigh Spears said. “They work so hard to get into ITS because seriously, all of the induction points, you have to do every single show in the year, and I think it’s just a fun experience for them because they get to goof around and learn about theatre all week.

The end of the week is celebrated by a banquet and ceremony for the students who have worked hard to become a member in the program.

“My favorite part is the ceremony,” theatre director Stephanie Winters said. “There’s the pledge that everybody says and it’s taken very seriously. I just like to see them so excited to finally get through and earn their way to ITS.”
