Redhawks are set to perform Theater UIL One Act Play, Run Rebel, the show on campus Thursday at 8 p.m.

Theater’s UIL One Act Play, Run Rebel, concluded their competition at Centennial High School on Tuesday. Now, Redhawks are set to stage the show on campus Thursday at 8 p.m.

“I believe this play is going to be amazing,” sophomore and crew member, Ana Ortiz said. “We have a lot of visual elements, including projections. The story itself revolves around a girl who likes running on the track; it’s her coping mechanism. Her abusive father forbids her from competing and running, and the conflict revolves around her determination to continue running despite family challenges. The play explored generational differences and family dynamics.”

Sophomore and tech crew member, Lexi Holding, has been preparing for the play by discussing the script with the cast and crew, finding inspiration in their teamwork and forming new friendships.

“I’ve been preparing [for the play] by working with my cast and crew members, specifically by talking through the play when we have time and making sure to ask each other questions if we get confused or are missing something,” Holding said. “The teamwork and collaboration throughout the entire cast was very inspirational, and allowed me to make new friendships that I wouldn’t have had before.”

Since casting, sophomore and crew member Tuhina Pandit has attended rehearsals, clinics, and extra practices which have helped create new friendships and deepened her understanding of theater.

“Since casting a month or two ago, we’ve had two-hour rehearsals every day after school. We’ve also participated in clinics on weekdays and weekends, along with extra weekend practices, all of which have helped me make many new friendships and learn about theatre along the way.”

Ortiz’s favorite part has been forming friendships with people in the theater community, especially with those who weren’t a part of the previous show, and is eager for audiences to watch the performance.

“My favorite part has probably been getting to know more people in the theater department,” Ortiz said. “Some of the people who are in this show weren’t part of the last one, so I didn’t really get to hang out with or know them that much. Now, over the past few months, we’ve been bonding, and I feel like that’s the best part of it. I’m just excited for people to watch the show.”
