Back on the tournament trail, tennis faces its biggest challenge yet
Tennis takes on Lebanon Trail Thursday in a tournament match up away. “We want to work together as a team and communicate better,” junior Anya Krishna said.

Changes are happening on the court Friday, as the tennis team competes against Rockwall. “I am playing in boys doubles this time, which is a portion of the game in which I am less comfortable with compared to singles,” freshman Ranveer Awasthi said.
Tennis dominates their spring tournament - and the weather

Facing many talented teams during their tournament at Wakeland Friday, players on the Redhawks tennis team were able to gain some experience.

“The competition at this tournament was tough,” assistant coach Neil Grobler said. “We had a couple of injuries, which provided a great opportunity for some of our players to get some more varsity-level experience.”

Juniors Krish Pokle and Krish Jayanth finished 6th placed in boys’ A doubles, sophomores Diya Pothuguntla and Minami Numata made the quarterfinals in girls’ B doubles, and freshman Ranveer Awasthi made the quarterfinals in boys’ singles.

Pokle believes that this tournament has helped him improve his skill level.

“Playing players who are perceived as above my skill level is hard for me, but during tournaments like these I can have fun playing these people and improving my technique,” Pokle said.

After having high hopes and a positive attitude toward their last game, the softball team fell short, losing 4-3 against the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. “It was a little disappointing that we weren’t able to take one last win,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “But the girls still had plenty of fun so I wouldn’t say it was a horrible loss.”

The numbers told the story at the Area meet as senior Syndi Wilkins (#1) and junior Sofia Golladay (#2) finished in 1st and 2nd place in the 3200 and hope to do the same at the Regional meet Friday and Saturday in Arlington.

An 11-0 loss to the Walnut Grove Wildcats on Friday night doesn’t have the Redhawks softball team down. “We lost, but it was a good game and we still played strong,” head coach Baylea Higgs said. “I think that heading toward the end of the season this shows that we still have plenty of room to grow.”
