Senior theater students have the opportunity to direct their own musicals on campus as a way to commemorate their graduation.

As the end of the school year is approaching, Redhawks theater is giving an opportunity for the seniors to direct their own play or musical.

“For a lot of them ,it is their last show here so it is their opportunity for them to be in charge of something fully,” theater tech director Cecily Maucieri said. “It also means a lot to the younger students as they get to work with the seniors for a last time.”

The senior directed performances are important for Ciara Wills as it is the last play she will put on from now on.

“This is my last time doing theater, as I won’t be doing in college,” Wills said. “It is special as I am taking charge without being told what to do while also putting my own creative view on stage.”

Acting in a senior direct play is a cool experience for sophomore Lexi Holding as she works with her own peers.

“Senior directs is a new but very cool experience as I am working with my peers as directors.” Holding said. “Not only does this give me opportunities to act under different directing styles but it also introduces me to new shows and ways of acting.”

Although senior directs can be a special experience for the directors, the most important thing is for everyone to have fun according to Wills.

“I hope that in my show my company can learn that hard work and fun can go hand in hand and that it is important to enjoy what you’re doing,” she said.
