The wrestling season has ended for most Redhawks, but for 10 others this is the peak of their season with the UIL 5A Region II Friday and Saturday in Addison.
“Winning [the district championship] meant a lot to me,” senior Esther Essien said. “I feel like it was a needed confidence boost, My coaches Knew I could do it and my teammates never stopped encouraging me and so all I had to do was also believe in myself,” Wrestler Esther Essien said.
With 10 wrestlers making it past districts, the coaching staff has been pushing their athletes to get them to the point they need to be at.
“We have regionals this week and we’ve been pushing it at practice,” Essien said. “Working on our conditioning more and also refining our skills , and so that’s how we’re preparing for our competition this week.”
While there is nothing left to be taught, there is plenty to practice on.
“We have been going over moves over and over again as well as a ton of conditioning to make sure everything is perfect and hopefully some will be able to qualify for state,” head coach Justin Koons said.
