With AP and EOC testing coming up in the last two months of the school year, students looking for extra help with their classes can turn to Frisco ISD’s free online rail tutorials that run every Monday through Thursday from 7-8 p.m.
“The students who zoom with me enjoy the smaller setting,” RAIL life science teacher Samantha Loeb said in an FISD news article. “Sometimes they need a reteach, additional strategies, or content clarification. They feel comfortable asking questions in a medium they are used to.”
The tutorial program offers help with several different subjects, but in addition to that, also offers assistance with other school related things, such as standardized test prep and college essays.
“I would prefer to use resources related to college essay coaching and SAT prep since they are less commonly taught in school,” junior Aiden Chan said. “Most outside of school, college and SAT prep are … expensive. Students with less financial resources should also be able to participate and learn from these kinds of tutorials, especially [since they could] greatly affect students’ education level and future.”
For senior Laasya Puranam, a lack of awareness about the program was a barrier when it came to using the tutoring resources over the years.
“I would consider using [the tutorials] if I was genuinely struggling with a class, but I didn’t know that [they] were an option,” Puranam said. “I would say if it was marketed better more people would know and use the resource.”
During AP test season, test prep tutorials have come in handy for some students.
“I have mostly used the FISD tutoring services during AP test season; I used it mostly during freshman year … because of AP Human Geography and being unsure of AP testing,” junior Mahi Kosuri said. “Normally [during the school year], just going to tutorials and watching YouTube is what I do when I need help, however, RAIL provides helpful and resourceful information about tests, so it’s beneficial during AP season.”
