November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on a disease that affects millions of Americans every day.
Diabetes affects millions of people across the United States, impacting lives in big and small ways every day. This month aims to educate, support, and inspire action toward prevention and better management.
Campus nurse Lindsey McDavid suggests some healthy habits to implement this month.
“Healthy habits that you want to follow with diabetes are just getting plenty of exercise, I’d say thirty to sixty minutes a day for children,” McDavid said. “And then eating healthy, making sure you’re getting plenty of fruits and vegetables and not eating too many processed carbohydrates, I would just take time whenever you can to get some exercise, walk around, bring healthy snacks and make healthy choices when you’re getting school lunch.”
