Chasing a championship

The girls cross country team, accompanied by two boys runners, were sent off Friday at the end of first period on their way to the state meet in Round Rock.

“What I expect is I expect our girls team to be on the medal stand, that would be awesome to get to stand up there, and even possibly some of our girls to get individual medals as well,” campus athletic coordinator Chris Burtch said. “So that’s my hope, my expectation though, is just for the girls to go down there and compete really well. Expectation for the guys is the same thing, I would love for those guys to finish in the top ten and get on the medal stand.”

The runners have been competing since summer and are looking at the state meet as just another meet.

“There’s no difference,” senior Nick Wynne said. “Whether individual or with a team I try and run as hard as I can to place as high as I can.”

The girls’ team expects to place highly after finishing second in the regional meet.

“Going into this weekend, my thoughts are very positive and I’m hoping to just go out and win state,” Fish said. “We all want to go in and focus an be ready to run hard.”

Bringing home a state championship would be a big accomplishment for the team, and the school, and that is the goal for this weekend.

“Anytime you’re a state champion at anything it’s exciting,” Burtch said. “So you kinda get walk around with a little bit of swag and bragging rights and so it’s always fun to come back and bring a state championship to Frisco.”
