The winter break brought mixed success for the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams but the resumption of District 13-5A play on Tuesday saw both teams get big wins over the Independence Knights.

Looking for its first district win, the boys’ basketball team jumped out took an early lead, ending the first half up 49-19. The second half saw the Knights fair a little better but the Redhawks were able to cruise to the win 84-46.

Things went just as well for the girls’ team as they burst out to an early 15-0 lead in the first quarter kept the pedal down the entire game playing some suffocating defense. Rolling to a 47-18 win, the girls held the Knights to just five field goals.

“As a whole, I thought we played well,” head girls basketball coach Ross Reedy said. “We did lose our focus a little bit in the second quarter, so it left us some areas for us to work on, but it was a great game for everyone to get some minutes and so productivity.”
