Texas, along with more than 25 other states, is in the highest category for flu-like sickness for the week ending Feb. 11 and Frisco ISD is doing what it can to slow down the spread of such illnesses with schools sanitized over the three-day weekend to help prevent the spread of things such as the flu.

“We certainly have seen an increase in illnesses across the district,” school nurse Emily Mikeska said. “The last several weeks, flu’s been on the increase and so, an effort was made through the custodial services to do extra cleaning.”

State funding for schools is partially determined by student attendance and Mikeska said there is one thing everybody can do to protect themselves.

“Frequent washing and use of hand sanitizer is the best way to prevent that,” Mikeska said. “Students and teachers should be aware that hand washing is your best way to protect yourself from the spread of disease.”
