Food fights at school are usually frowned upon, but Friday after their spring improv show, dessert was flying as the theater program hosted its first annual cake war; a fundraiser for students who qualified for the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska June 25-30.

“The booster club raised the money,” theater director Heather Willingham said. “I think with the cake wars we raised about $250 and then our improv show I think raised around $300, so that should help some with the funds.”

Students, teachers, and parents who attended the cake war had the opportunity to buy cakes that they could throw at each other. The event lasted for one hour and tickets were $10 each.

“It was a lot more fun than I expected it to be,” sophomore Isabella Knott said. “We all just ran around with cake and we threw it at each other!”

Knott believes that the cake war was more than a fundraiser.

“A lot of the incoming freshman attended the show and they attended the cake war afterwards, so it kind of showed them the atmosphere of the theater program,” Knott said. “It’s just a really fun, open place and the cake war really reflected that.”
