Elementary and middle school students interested in theater will have the chance to take part in a workshop on campus on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“We introduce theater more hands-on to the younger kids,” theatre director Stephanie Winters said. “Usually they have fun and get to see all of the work behind the shows.”

The students will get to learn about work onstage and offstage and all of the tricks behind running the shows.

“My favorite part about working with the kids is doing improv with the kids,” Winters said. “Seeing the really shy kids come out of there shell and laugh with the other kids is my favorite part of teaching the kids.”

Some of the students from the workshop eventually move into the theater program with Winters when they go into high school.

“I’ve had several kids come into theater that I knew from the workshop,” Winters said. “We’ve done three before when they don’t conflict with any of our shows, but most of them join theater later.”
