Getting rid of old electronics might be a little easier for some local residents as the school’s DECA chapter is hosting a tech drive at Limestone Quarry Park, in Turnbridge Manor on Saturday from 1-3 p.m., to raise funds for their ICDC national competition in Orlando.

“DECA is collecting different used and old technology like cell phones, tablets, laptops, desktops,” DECA officer, senior Kaitlin Shin said. “We’re partnering with a company called Re-Teck, which is one of the largest U.S.  recycling companies, and they’re going to safely recycle those different old technology items that we get, and then sell off the reusable parts to make a profit and help our ICDC competitors travel to Orlando.”

Vice-President, senior Saahithi Joopelli, hopes the fundraiser will help the competitors pay for the competition.

“Every competitor has to [raise] $1,300 to go to the Orlando competition,” Joopelli said. “In order to make that easier for them, we’re hoping to give the technology to ReTeck and exchange the money they get from recycling. Then we’re going to give that money back to the competitors to help them pay for the trip.”
