The girls’ basketball team advanced to the second round of playoffs with a 47-40 win over Wylie East on Monday night at Plano West.

Trailing at the end of the first quarter, the team rallied back, led by junior Rebecca Lescay who led all scorers with 21 points. Randi Thompson and Jordan Hamilton also pitched in 9 and 8 points respectively.

“I was proud of our girls for playing really hard,” head coach Ross Reedy said. “Sometimes things don’t go your way and you don’t play the way you want to. We didn’t shoot free throws very well. We didn’t hit a lot shots from close range that we usually knock down. For them to go through that adversity and still do enough to win is the mark of a team with character and ultimately that has the opportunity to be great.”

The team will either play Rockwall Heath (16-11, 11-3) or Bryan Adams (14-11, 10-4) on either Thursday or Friday in the next round with a location and time yet to be determined.
