Seniors De’Leon Freeman and Sarah Ramos, as well as junior Mercede Alvarez competed in the UIL 5A State Wrestling Tournament at the Berry Center in Cypress Friday and Saturday with Freeman taking 2nd place, and Ramos and Alvarez finishing in the top 8 in their classes. 

Three Redhawks wrestlers are hoping to pin their competition Friday and Saturday at the Berry Center in Cypress where the are competing for 5A state championships. The Redhawks sent three automatic qualifiers to to the tournament: senior DeLeon Freeman, senior Sarah Ramos, and junior Mercede Alvarez.

“I’m planning on wrestling in college and afterwards in the Olympics,” Freeman said. “I would describe this season as just how I wanted it to be. It was wonderful.”

Though the end result left some to be desired for Alvarez, she’s already looking ahead to next year. 

“It’s not the desired outcome, but I still have next year,” she said. “I’m planning on resting and giving my body a break.”
